Recently, while on-site covering for a client’s PA, I overheard a really practical conversation in the office: the team was talking about how it is tricky for people to find their office; especially for first-time visitors and delivery drivers.

Their solution❓ Adding a what3words address to their website, email footers, and client communications.

It’s such a simple idea and it really works. Yet so many businesses, especially in London and Dubai where we work with clients, are still missing this small detail that can make a big difference to how customers experience their brand.

If you haven’t come across what3words yet, here’s the quick version:

It’s a free app and tool that divides the entire world into 3-metre squares. Every one of those 3m² spots is given a unique three-word code which means you can direct people to the exact place you want them to go.

For example: instead of “Main Entrance, 123 High Street” (which could apply to several doors), your address might be:

👉 ///laptop.candle.plants which pinpoints exactly where your front door is.

It’s easy to use, takes minutes to set up, and solves so many headaches.

"what3words addresses can be used even by those without the app. Simply send them the address as a link so they can view it on their online map. If you send them the what3words address without a link, they can enter it into the search bar on the online map at what3words.com"

Why is this useful for businesses?

Here are just a few ways my clients are starting to use what3words:

Pinpoint accuracy

It’s perfect for locations with confusing or hidden entrances, large complexes, business parks, rural addresses, or busy multi-business buildings.

Your customers and suppliers can find exactly where to go and no more wandering around in the rain looking for the right door.

Improved customer experience

How a person finds you is often their very first experience of your business. Making this smooth and simple helps create a great first impression, whether you’re a creative studio, a members’ club, or a professional services office.

Saves time & reduces stress

Reception teams and PAs no longer have to field multiple calls of “I’m outside but can’t find it.” Your clients arrive in a calmer, more positive frame of mind and you’re not chasing missed deliveries.

Fantastic for events & mobile teams

I also work with clients in events and hospitality and for outdoor spaces, temporary event venues, or shared-use areas, what3words is invaluable.

It helps contractors, event guests, security, catering teams and press find exactly where they need to be.

Great for construction, real estate & service businesses

It’s also brilliant for contractors, site workers, estate agents showing properties, and tradespeople who often struggle with confusing addresses or open sites.

Free and easy to set up

There’s no subscription or expensive tech, it’s completely free to use. You can start today.

How to add what3words to your business:

1. Find your 3-word address:

Head to what3words.com or download the app. Drop a pin on the exact spot you want people to go, whether that’s your front door, reception entrance, delivery point, or event stand.

2. Add it to your website & contact info:

Place your what3words address clearly on your contact page, directions section, footer, or booking pages e.g.:

“Our exact location: ///apple.banana.river”

3. Use it in confirmations & invites:

Include your what3words address in:

  • Client booking confirmation emails

  • Delivery instructions for couriers

  • Supplier briefs

  • Event invitations and signage

  • Google calendar invites with location pins

4. Brief your team:

Reception staff, PAs, event planners, site managers, and operations teams should know your what3words location so they can pass it on easily when needed.

One of those small details that makes a big difference

At Lady PA, spotting these kinds of small improvements is exactly what we do, whether we’re working with clients on an ongoing basis or stepping in for short-term PA cover.

A few clients ask us to come in when their usual PA is away either for a half-day, a week, or even longer. When you’re juggling busy operations, clients on-site, events or project deadlines, having a flexible, professional pair of hands can make all the difference.

And often it’s these little details - like adding what3words to your site - that help things run just that bit smoother.
